How Much Does ADSL Cost?

ADSL The total monthly cost of an ADSL connection is made up from two individual costs - the physical ADSL line from Gibtelecom, and the Internet connection from GibNet.

This can be compared to a standard dial-up account which you may be using now - the physical ADSL line is equivalent to the telephone line which you pay Gibtelecom for, and you pay GibNet for a username and password to allow you to log on to the Internet.

In other words, to get ADSL you simply upgrade your telephone line to an ADSL line with Gibtelecom, and you upgrade your dial-up account to an ADSL account with GibNet.

The following prices show the costs for Gibtelecom as well as GibNet to give you a clear picture as to what the total cost will be. They are separated into Business and Home Users.

Gibtelecom's setup fee includes a USB ADSL modem and one filter. The filter removes the sound of the modem from the ADSL line and this is what enables you to talk on the same line at the same time. You can find more information on what the filters do at What Is ADSL? You will require a separate filter for each phone that you have plugged into the ADSL line. If you have more than one telephone on the same line you will have to purchase more filters.

Additional Filters cost £7 each.

The setup fee does not include the installation of the ADSL software at your premises. We will provide you with the USB ADSL modem and software which is quite straight forward to install yourself. If, however, you feel that you need a technician to install it for you at your premises, then this can be arranged.

An Onsite Installation costs £50.

Finally, we have subscribers who currently use their dial-up account to connect from home and from work. An ADSL line is fixed to one particular phone line and, if you upgrade your dial-up account to ADSL, your dial-up connection will be disabled and you will not be able to connect from any phone line using your modem. If you decide to take up ADSL but also require a dial-up connection you can take out an Additional Dial-Up Login.

An Additional Dial-Up Login costs £10 per month or £100 per annum.

The difference between an Additional Dial-Up Login and a standard Dial-Up Account is as follows. An Additional Dial-Up Login simply provides you with a dial-up connection to the same account and you would therefore use the same login name, e-mail address, etc as your ADSL Account. A new Dial-Up Account would provide you with a completely new account which would include a new login name, new e-mail address, etc.
